On The Road!

Today (August 23rd) was the big day! We left BC and started our venture across North America! Our car is packed so full that we think we will have to buy groceries for each day as we cannot fit rations for several days in! The car was loaded, we said our good byes and Carl started backing the car out my parents driveway…In the wrong direction! I really hope that wasn’t foreshadowing for what’s to come! As we neared the border crossing my fear of us being pulled over and searched grew stronger as the car in front of us was led away to be searched! But after a few questions, we were sent on our merry way! The drive to Oregon was pretty smooth – we set up our new GPS, followed the directions and battled through Seattlle’s traffic! It took a little longer than we thought but we got to Astoria, Oregon by about 5:30!

We knew most campsites would be full however we did not expect that the only campsite available would be the $41 a night KOA?! Yup, so here I sit with access to WiFi by the campfire, a pool and hot tub across the way, a movie playing just down the road, hot showers right next door and a free (if you can call it that) pancake breakfast waiting for us tomorrow morning!

Our campsite is small..And we are pretty much penned in like horses with our neighbors on either side of the fence which separates us! I’d say come visit but you can’t get in without a wrist band! But if you do get in, bring more wood for the fire – we can’t afford another $6 on 6 pieces of damp wood!I feel ashamed…

This morning (August 24th) we woke up at 6am to get in what we were told would be a long line up for pancakes! Breakfast started at 7am so we were sure to be there by 6:45 to beat the rush - and we did! We were the first and the only ones there! We took off after breakfast and headed to Cannon Beach where we went for a nice walk along the beach and did some yoga :) From there it was off to Portland where we are now sitting at a starbucks! We check out Powell's bookstore which is a massive multi leveled store taking up an entire block! We could have spent forever there! From here we will continue to head east to find our next campground!
