We hope you all had a Happy Thanksgiving! We once again had a fun filled weekend! On Friday night Carl went out with a friend who he went to highschool with. Carl randomly ran into this guy (Tyson) at school here and it turns out he is studying something similar to Carl and is in classes in the same building on campus. They had a nice time catching up while Carolynn and I walked around town, and then went back to her place and watched some TV. Ahhh TV, how we miss you...Carl spent Saturday working on a project with another guy in his class and I prepared for the evening ahead! We were going to Kris and Kellie's for an evening of appetizers! I found some fun recipes and then had to go buy all the ingrediants as well as stuff to bake everything in! Oh how I miss my Pampered Chef kitchen at home! As I sat on the kitchen floor beside the garbage can peeling apples with a dull peeler from the dollar store, I dreamt of my Pampered Chef peeler. As my spatula melted into what I was cooking, I dreamt of my nice heat resistant spatulas from Pampered Chef, sitting in a box at home. Oh how much more I appreciate Pampered Chef now that I don't have it! I cooked up an Indian style dip, made Prawns stuffed with cream cheese and coated in cornflakes, made a veggie and dip platter and for the finale, I made my first ever apple crumble! Mmmmm, mmmm it was good! Although it would have been better if I had my Pampered Chef ice cream scoop for the ice cream! We had a nice evening, enjoying the company and food - we all ate way to much!
The following morning Carl and I headed out to Tweed to meet up with Great Great Aunt Joanie and Fred. From there, we headed about 45minutes farther to a lake where 4 of Joanie's children each have their own cottage (they are cottages here, not cabins). There we met some of Joanies kids (my moms cousins), some of there kids and some of there kids kids! I was also reunited with my short term pen pal from my childhood, Renee! Although I can't remember half of their names (there was at least 30 of us), we had a good time and had a huge feast with 6 different desserts! Everyone was welcoming and we were invited to come back anytime! Around 8pm Fred and Joanie were ready to head to home. It was very dark and where we were, there were lots of deer and no street lights. Fred, insisted on driving home (even though Carl offered) - I was a little hesitant and got even more hesitant when we started driving and Fred started talking about how he can only see out of one eye! I sat on the edge of my seat the whole way home but we made it, and to Fred's credit, he is a pretty good driver - especially for an 80 year old guy with only one functioning eye! Although we did spend our Thanksgiving with friends and some distant relatives (and got to Skype the Funk's during their Thanksgiving dinner!), being away from friends and family at home gave me a different perspective on the holidays. It made me realize how often I take for granted the times that I do get to spend the holidays with my family. I often forget just how blessed I am to even have a family to spend the holidays with!
On Monday, I had an interview at Starbucks! Although I am getting shifts everyday at the bank and have applied for some permanant posts at the bank, I just wanted to have a back up plan...And really, who doesn't want a free pound of coffee every week?! I have a second interview scheduled for tomorrow! After the interview, Carolynn and I headed about an hour out of town to a small town called Westport along the Rideau Heritage Route. Westport is a small little town with lakes all around it and a small look-out over the town. It's where all the pictures on this blog are from. Carl couldn't come because he needed to do more reading:
This week, as I mentioned I have an interview at Starbucks, another interview at the bank for a teller position and I have also put an application in for a Personal Banking Officer (PBO) Trainee position that I'm hoping to hear about soon! Feeling a tad overwhelmed by it all! I know what I want to happen, hope it happens and that it happens all in the right order! Prayers are appreciated! As for Carl, he has his only mid term (take home) exam this week and is feeling that things are going to start getting a little more hectic in the weeks to come!
Until the next update, this is Leah and Carl signing out!
You didn't even take your veggie peeler - oh my goodness, you really were planning on roughing it!!!! The pictures are awesome. I think I really want to come in the fall, may have to do fall and summer...oh, and spring, and............ Glad you were able to get together with some family members!!!! Actually - I think they were 2nd cousins, and 2nd cousins once removed, maybe even twice removed!! We'll keep both of you in prayer - Carl for his studies, and you for work.
